Internal Medical

 

A medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and medical treatment of adults. Word 'internal medicine' Came from German term " Innere Medizin" which means combining the Science of lab with care of patient. A physician who specializes in the internal medicine is referred as an internist in USA & Physician in U.K . Internist sometimes referred as "doctor's doctor" as they are often called upon to solve complex diagnostic problems.

Physicians deals with the entire patient rather than a particular organ system hence his/her approach is more comprehensive and holistic. Internist is a one person contact between between super specialist & the patient. Super specialist depends upon internist for initial diagnosis & post-therapeutic day-today care of patient & Patients require Internist for their continuous management.

An internist is a personal physician who provides long term, comprehensive care in the office and the hospital, managing both common and complex illness of adolescent , adults and the elderly. Physicians are equipped to deal with whatever problem a patient brings no matter how common or rare or how simple or complex they are.

They are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic  illness and situation where several different illness  may strike at the same time.
