Oncopathology

The fully equipped state of the art Laboratory provides the following services.

Histopathology for tissue diagnosis of cancer in needle core biopsies, as well as detailed comprehensive reporting on radical cancer excision specimens.

 

We at Artemis to Cytology of:-

• Body fluids including ascitic, pleural & cerebrospinal as well as bronchoalveolar lavage
• PAP smear for early detection of cervical cancer
• Bronchial & biliary brushings, and
• FNAC, both direct & CT/USG guided.

Frozen section facility for rapid, intra-operative diagnosis of malignancy, as well as for nodal status & margin status during cancer surgery.

Immunohistochemistry for several cancer associated antigens including basic panels for typing of Lymphomas, soft tissue sarcomas, small cell tumours & undifferentiated malignancies. Some prognostic & therapeutic markers like Estrogen & progesterone receptors, Her-2Neu & Ki 67 are also offered.

Surgical Options

Surgery for head and neck cancer often involves removal of functionally or cosmetically important tissue. The department performs various state of the art procedures to reduce the morbidity of the treatment. This allows patients to resume their normal lifestyle and work after surgery. These include procedures like :

Hemato-oncology -  for diagnosis & staging of leukemia/lymphoma on peripheral smears, bone marrow aspirates & trephine biopsies. Cytochemical staining for blast cell categorization in acute leukemia is also offered.

Tumor markers – In addition to the Immunohistochemical markers, serological tumor markers are also available for several tumors including Germ cell tumors, prostate cancer etc.

The Lab. also provides 24 x 7 support for hematology & biochemical tests.
